Data acquisition

Design and development of a data acquisition system

A thermal and inertial data acquisition system for UAV use, logging RTD and thermocouple channels to 500 samples per second and rated to -40 °C.

The requirement

The problem this answered.

Thermal and inertial data from a UAV had to be logged across several channels, fast enough to be useful and in conditions where most instrumentation stops working.

Constraints and operating environment: Airborne, operation down to -40 °C, under 100 g.

Vebix scope

What we did.

A thermal and inertial data-acquisition system was developed for UAV applications. It logged data from RTD and thermocouple sensors across multiple channels at configurable sampling rates, enabling real-time temperature monitoring.

A graphical interface supported visualisation and review of collected data. The inertial unit incorporated IMU, pressure, and temperature sensors for flight evaluation, with the system designed for operation down to -40°C, a compact mass below 100 g, and sampling rates up to 500 samples per second.
